The Mississippi Flag

As a Mississippi native and an artist, I felt a deep sense of connection to the debate surrounding the state flag after the removal of the Confederate emblem. With Governor Tate Reeves signing a bill that mandated the creation of a new design, I saw an opportunity to contribute to the creation of a banner that would reflect the spirit of my home state. I submitted a series of designs that were inspired by the beauty of Mississippi's natural landscapes, as well as its rich cultural heritage and diverse communities. Although my design was not ultimately selected, I'm proud to have contributed to this important moment in Mississippi's history and to have been part of the conversation surrounding the new flag.

Through my experience as an artist and a designer, I brought a unique perspective to the process of creating a new flag for Mississippi. I took into consideration the technical aspects of flag design, as well as the symbolic and emotional significance that a flag holds for its people. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have participated in this historic moment and I'm excited to see the new flag fly high over our great state, representing the diversity, strength, and unity of Mississippi.
